In a bold move on April 29, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting with top military officials and gave the Indian Armed Forces full operational freedom to determine how and when to respond to national threats.

This green light came alongside the announcement of several weapon acquisitions and defence upgrades, such as:

Indigenous naval warships like INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vagsheer
